After discovering such a great product, we thought we’d do a Targus notebook case review. The model of case in question is the “Targus XS Sub-Notebook case”.

Looking at the style of the case, it is pretty fashionable. Apart from looking great, it is a good size and fits notebooks between 8 and 12 inches. There is a comfy fit for the laptop, and can be kept in place with an internal strap. Carrying the Targus notebook case is easy when you have plenty of options to do so. You can carry it like a backpack, or use a single strap, it’s entirely up to you.

As for keeping your laptop safe, there is a shock absorbent material lining the laptop compartment of the bag to ensure if you do drop your notebook, it will be safe. There are a few exterior pockets which is great to carry extras that you may take with you. The size is ideal for mobile phones, extra pens, etc.

Targus Notebook Case Review Conclusion

The Targus XS Sub-Notebook case is great for carrying around your notebook and any other extras you may need to take with you. Stylish and secure, you can certainly rely on it.

First impressions here suggest that it’s nothing more than a Blackberry Bold 9700 with more internal memory & a black case replacement, instead of the existing Chrome one.

Alongside the memory boost & updated bodywork, this phone will be one of the first of new Blackberry range that will ship with OS 6 as standard.

So if you’re a Bold 9700 owner, this won’t really tempt you into upgrading. However if you’ve liked the look of the Bold 9700 already, then it could be worth holding on till this hits the shelves!

The new iPhone 4.0.1 software was released 5 days ago as a way to combat the issues currently being experienced by iPhone 4 customers. Naturally the antenna reception issue is the hot concern for owners of the new Apple device, so news of a solution was eagerly anticipated. The first element of the fix was changing the formula that has been used to calculate the signal strength. To me, that doesn’t sound like a solution, it’s merely moving the goal posts so that the signal problem doesn’t look as bad.

Alongside this shift in the way the reception bar is calculated, Apple decided to offer a free bumper case to every customer of the iPhone 4. Certainly not the answer everyone hoped for, but from a commercial aspect it’s definitely cheaper than recalling the entire batch of phones. Which, to be honest, doesn’t surprise me as I think Apple would try every possibility of fixing phones than opposed to having to recall, which would be a P.R. disaster.

However, a software update and a free case doesn’t detract from the possible design flaw that this handset poses. Steve Job’s controversially used competitors products to highlight the possible problem with covering the antenna, as a way to show that this kind of flaw happens quite regularly in the handsets offered in the industry. Whilst this might happen, this doesn’t excuse one handset from avoiding the problems that its hardware has caused.

We would love to hear from Apple iPhone 4 owners and if they’ve had antenna problems and whether iOS 4.0.1 works for them.

Finally, the iPhone 4 is here. With hundreds of thousands of pre-orders made, the iPhone 4 will be just as popular, if not more popular than it’s predecessors. The newer model is quite a lot different than any of the older models in design and in the way it works and therefore we’ve been asked “Which iPhone 3GS accessories will work with the iPhone 4?” The list below reveals which 3G and 3GS accessories will work with the iPhone 4:

Cases – Will Not Fit

The iPhone 4 is pretty different looking to the previous models with it’s new industrial design. Any fitted cases that you have for the 3GS will definitely not fit the iPhone 4.

Chargers – Will Fit

The iPhone 4 has the same input as the other iPhones, and even iPods – it still uses the 30 pin connector. Wall and car chargers that you had before will definitely work with the new model.

Docking Stations – Will Work

Docking stations that you had previously will still work. You will simply need a new shape adapter for the iPhone 4 for it to fit properly, but the dock will still work.

Audio Equipment As Standard (Headphones, Speakers)

The new Apple iPhone still uses a 3.5mm headphone jack, the industry standard for audio. You can use pretty much any headphones you want with this socket and your old ones from the 3G and 3GS will definitely still work. Speakers that connect via the 3.5mm jack will work too.

Bluetooth Headsets a Grey Area (as always)

Bluetooth headsets have always been a little bit strange with iPhones. However, if you have a headset that works with your old iPhone, chances are it will work with your iPhone 4. If you’re looking to buy a new headset, just make sure it’s definitely iPhone compatible first.

There are a few Apple iPhone accessories that have been missed out of this list, because there are so many! Please don’t hesitate to leave a comment and ask any questions about which iPhone 3GS accessories will work with the iPhone 4.

The 14 megapixel camera phone Altek Leo has been floating around the internet as pretty much a rumour up until now. However at CommunicAsia, Altek revealed a working unit and decided to divulge some information about the device.

Being a 14 megapixel camera phone, the Altek Leo has some impressive camera stats:

14MP resoultion

3 x optical zoom

Xenon flash

1/2.3 inch CCD sensor

Aside from the camera part of the phone, the only other details revealed are that it runs Android 2.1 with an update to 2.2 promised. Sadly the Altek Leo may not make it over to America or the UK and is released in Asia in Q4 of this year. Bombard them with emails and they might just take some notice!

Images of Nokia’s new 8-megapixel, full touch smart phone has surfaced on a Chinese website today. With rumours coming out of Nokia of a complete overhaul of their handset range, and the recent N8 causing a stir in the industry circles, Nokia is looking to achieve the position as one of the most dominant manufacturers in the market again. So lets see what the C7 offers.

The C7, appears to be one of the higher end handsets in Nokia’s new C-Series. Supported by the new Symbian^3 operating system, and complimented with a 3.5 inch, multi-gesture touch screen this looks like a strong addition to Nokia’s new range of handsets.

Unfortunately that’s all the information, with regards to the specification, that has surfaced currently. One think that strikes us from the leaked images is this looks like one of Nokia’s thinnest handsets, this is maybe the beginning of a new revolution from the Finnish manufacturer.

Of course as these are leaked pictures, it’s difficult to establish if this is the real deal we’re seeing here. However everything that has been published recently with regards to Nokia’s new C-Series phone, and the pictures of C5 handset, would suggest that these leaked images could be bang on the money for authenticity.

Whilst I wouldn’t see the C7 starting to compete with phones from either Apple or HTC, it does offer serious competition to Samsung’s range of handsets.

We’re predicting exciting times ahead for Nokia and we’re pretty sure we’ll be seeing more announcements with regards to their new range later this year.

The iPhone 4 was announced last night at the Apple WWDC by non other than Steve Jobs himself. There’s been a lot of stuff added to the new iPhone. Apple says “this changes everything. Again”. Let’s take a quick look.

Good Looking

The body of the iPhone 4 isn’t really different from the one that Gizmodo got their hands on a while ago. It uses a tough glass material, and has a stainless steel rim which is used as part of the antenna – giving it great signal reception. Being 34% thinner than the 3GS, Apple claims it is the thinnest smartphone ever.

Powerful Processing

Looking inside the pretty shell of the iPhone 4 reveals the powerful Apple A4 chip, which can also be found inside the iPad. Apple claims that this chip enables the phone to process data more quickly and consume less battery life. Touching on battery life, the battery is 16% bigger than the 3GS. Preliminary figures tell us standby time is 300 hours, and talk time over 3G is 7 hours. Not too shabby.

The Retina Display

One of the big things touted at the WWDC last night was Apple’s “Retina Display”. It kicks out an impressive resolution of 960 x 640, and displays 326 pixels per inch. While this might not mean much to the non-technical, it simply means that the text and images will look a lot sharper, and makes way for more graphically impressive apps. This should make up-and-coming applications worth the wait.

The Cameras and Video Calling

The camera has always been one of the biggest downfalls of the iPhone. The iPhone 4 comes fitted with a 5 megapixel camera and an LED flash. Whilst this is an improvement on the previous iPhone cameras, it really isn’t too impressive compared to the 12 and 14 megapixel cameraphones. It does do HD video recording however, and you can also use the LED flash with this mode. An editing application called iMovie will also become available in the app store, which allows you to edit your movies straight from the phone.

There is also a front-facing camera of an unimpressive resolution on the iPhone 4, this will enable video calling using software called Face Time. This currently only supports iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 calling, and over Wi-Fi only. Apple seem to have dropped the ball on this, as the technology seems a little out-dated and restricted.

iOS4

The iPhone 4 comes with new software by the name of iOS4. You can expect much of the same fluid and intuitive user interface, but it will look a whole lot better on that high-res display. Whilst promising to look stunning, the biggest feature added is selective multi-tasking. Apple say you will be able to multi-task some app features without consuming too much battery life.

UK Availability

The iPhone 4 will become available on O2, Vodafone and Orange on June 24th. It’s not too far away, and offers plenty of network choice. We’ll see how long the stocks last after the initial buzz, or will it be another story of insufficient stock levels like with the popularity of the HTC Desire? Prices haven’t been confirmed yet, so keep your eyes peeled!

Apple iPhone 4 Spec Summary

So what we know at the moment is:

Powered by the Apple A4 Chip

“Retina” display, 960 x 640 pixels, 3.5 inch multi-touch

Industrial design with the steel rim used as the antenna

Improved battery life

5 Megapixel camera

Front facing camera

Video calling, restrictive to iPhone 4, over Wi-Fi only

HD video recording, with on-board video editing coming soon

Runs iOS4, which enables selective multi-tasking

Just Catching Up & Is It Enough?

Yes, the iPhone is the iPhone. It looks pretty, it’s easy to use, is something familiar and definitely something of a fashion statement. However, many of the features mentioned are already available on different devices, with almost all bases covered by Google and their Android platform. 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processors will be on their way soon, multi-tasking is available on many devices, HD video recording has started to take off on numerous devices, and video calling is pretty open to anyone on other handsets. Yes, the screen on the iPhone 4 is beautiful and it will really show off the apps and the new OS, but is that REALLY enough to stay ahead of the smartphone pack?

Motorola have gone official with their FLIPOUT mobile phone. While looking strange, this is looking like a pretty good phone. The Motorola FLIPOUT runs Google Android 2.1 with MOTOBLUR slapped on top to make this a social networking beast.

Most notably on the FLIPOUT is the 5 row QWERTY keyboard. This means all the letters are there as expected, but also a row of numbers at the top – something of a rarity on QWERTY mobile phones!

Other features on the Motorola FLIPOUT include 3G, support for up to 32GB MicroSD cards and a 2.8 inch screen. Expect to see this very soon, it’s going to be released in the “second quarter”, and we’re nearly at the end of it.
